How to be productive on a bad day
  • portiastudies

I get it, we all have them, but unfortunately, the pile of work we have waiting for us isn’t going to do it itself.

After reading these, I have to note that some of the pieces of advice sound like the kind of bad advice depressed people hear.  If it is long term sadness or depression that you are facing some of these tips might not work as well.  Stay strong.

Remove the source.  Turn of your phone, lock your door, put some headphones in, go to a nearby coffee shop or library to do your work. Often the things that are putting us down in the dumps are things we can remove ourselves from.

Get happy.  Maybe it’s a song or a favorite youtube video that lifts your spirits. Take a few minutes to distract yourself.  This not only helps put you in a better mood, it can help you forget the subpar parts of the day.

Cut down your workload.  It’s been a bad day, why stress yourself out?  This is the perfect time to cut your assignments down to the bare minimum.  If it’s not due tomorrow, skip it.

Congratulate yourself!  If completing an assignment feels like winning a battle, treat it that way.  Have a cookie, watch some Netflix, you did it!  Now treat yourself.

Take a nap.  My mother always told me “things are always worse when you’re tired.”  If you have work to do you might as well be awake to do it.  A nice long nap can clear your head and your heart.

Make something.  Whenever I feel sad I pick up my guitar and play/ write something, or I paint.  Creating something always makes me feel content and improves my mood.  If you have a hobby, pick it up for an hour or so and let it and you be the only things in the world.

Remember that tomorrow will be better, this is one day out of thousands.
