So my prelim exam is in 18 days so I spent the whole day today finishing my written proposal. I finished it, but it’s needs some work 😓 but now time to send it around!
me: earned literally two degrees in chemistry
me, typing up a proposal:
Current writing strategy is “keep writing garbage sentences until the good ones come out”

Science: 2 pages of a really cool story, 50 pages of supplement
Cell: your entire dissertation edited down to 20 unreadable pages
PNAS: papers Academy members couldn’t get into better journals
PLOS one: papers non Academy members couldn’t get into better journals, but open source
eLife: papers people couldn’t get into PLOS one
Nature [insert field]: research that isn’t hot enough for Nature
Physical Chemistry Chemical Physics: we couldn’t decide if we were one field or two
JACS: chemistry you’re pretty sure is cool but honestly you’re not sure you understand
Angewante Chemie: JACS but German
Advances in Physics: scientific journals: a statistical approach
Astrophysical Journal: not nearly enough pictures of space
Actual Journal of Your Field: solid science, interesting, low impact

today was spent reading more papers for prelim! woo!

it’s been almost a year since my last tumblr post but i’m back! (:
my prelim exam is a month from now so i’m low key freakin out. which is also one of the reasons why i came back to tumblr lol
i’m polishing my specific aims page while watching friends. it’s pretty much done, which means it’s time for me to write the full proposal. wish me luck!
